Plywood is a multi-layer wood sheet material,  consists of glued  thin sheets of wood veneer. Glue the veneer with resin, while alternating the directions of wood fibers on adjacent sheets & nbsp; to improve overall strength and wear resistance.

Technically, laser cutting occurs in this way - the laser beam moves along a programmatically specified trajectory and burns through the plywood according to the power and speed settings. The minimum width of a cut which the laser is capable to give -  0.01mm,  non-contact cutting and eliminates mechanical deformation of the material, the edge is clear, and the end is smooth - but dark, "charred". This is the specificity of laser cutting - a characteristic dark cut, and the thicker the plywood (or wood, MDF), the higher the required power, the darker the edge.

The plywood production technology may allow some gluing errors, somewhere there may be small voids in the glue layer, somewhere, on the contrary, there is an excess. The thicker the plywood, the more beam power is needed, several passes are possible,  the cut may become wider and significantly darker. Quite often it turns out that  for plywood with a thickness of more than 10mm, it is more appropriate to use CNC milling. Advantage mill cutting light edges remain, although they may require sanding in the case of plywood.
